The Leadership Development Institute (LDI) is an exemplary leadership development tool for youth and young adults with disabilities in Pennsylvania. Funded by the State Implementation Grant through the Department of Health since 2009, it continues to experience an ever-growing network of youth and young adults. The LDI's mission is to create, develop, and train youth and young adults with disabilities in order to give them the tools necessary to become leaders and role models. The LDI currently has conducted three sessions training 70 youth, eleven of whom have gone on to lead subsequent LDI trainings and events. By expanding the network of leaders statewide, we hope to raise awareness of our organization and the need for self advocacy and leadership in various communities. Once they become leaders it is our hope that the youth participants will continue to lead and inspire by staying active and using their newly obtained skill set in their communities.
